Solar Eclipse April 8: It will be an education day for Pontiac schools

The Hauts-Bois-de-l'Outaouais School Service Center (CSSHBO) has announced an education day for preschool, primary and secondary school students on April 8th. According to CSSHBO, this decision was made for safety reasons during the solar eclipse scheduled for that day. The daycare centers remain closed. Public health officials have also reminded people not to look directly at the sun. without adequate protection. Otherwise, serious problems can occur, including partial or complete loss of vision.

This solar eclipse, scheduled for April 8 for Canada, the United States and Mexico, is a rare phenomenon, a total solar eclipse. When the moon is perfectly aligned between the Earth and the sun, parts of these lands are briefly plunged into darkness. In Quebec, the last total solar eclipse was more than 50 years ago (1972). After April 8th, there will be no next solar eclipse for more than 80 years (2106).

Please note that courses will be retained for all adult general and vocational education students. Employees must also report to work at the usual time. The reserve day on June 7, 2024 will become a regular school day.
