What about taxes?
Winnings from the Italian lottery are not subject to tax. There is no withholding or tax on winnings of any amount from the Italian lottery – explains the Customs and Monopolies Authority – the amounts corresponding to the winning tickets are credited in full.
Who won last year?
Last year it was a tobacconist in Bologna who celebrated, while Lazio was confirmed as the happiest region with three of the five prizes in the first category, those with six-figure numbers.
How many tickets were sold and where?
This year, 10 percent more tickets were sold than in 2022: 6.7 million, one for every 10 inhabitants. According to the Customs and Monopolies Authority, Lombardy and Lazio are the two regions where the most goods were sold, ahead of Campania. Rome is the leading province: 968,090 tickets issued. The second province of Milan is at 443,210; that of Naples at 330,420.
Unclaimed prizes
The Italian lottery also brings with it an unusual record, namely the unclaimed prizes. In the last twenty years, from 2002, as Agipronews reports, a total of almost 31 million euros have been forgotten. The most striking case comes from 2008, when not even the top prize of 5 million was claimed. The last episode dates back to 2016, although the €2 million prize was never claimed.
The extraction mechanism
The draw took place during Affari Tuoi – Speciale Lotteria Italia, a special episode hosted by Amadeus at the Teatro delle Vittorie in Rome. Many guests of this very rich episode, as Amadeus defined it at the beginning of the evening: Maria Chiara Giannetta (who takes part in the game for Liguria), Francesco Paolantoni (Tuscany), Lillo (Piedmont); and then Stefano Accorsi, Sergio Friscia, Pietro Castellitto and Benedetta Porcaroli, Iva Zanicchi, Pietro Castellitto and Paolo Fox.
How the game worked
At the end of the traditional Affari Tui game, the lottery game began, in which the VIP guests were the protagonists.
Based on the different guests' ability to answer questions about the Italian regions during the game, each of them was assigned 5 vouchers hidden in sealed containers with a lucky symbol.
Iva Zanicchi has been linked to the 5 million euro note.
The 2.5 million euro ticket was linked to Maria Chiara Giannetta.
Lillo received the third prize worth 2 million euros.
Francesco Paolantoni was awarded the fourth prize worth 1.5 million.
The fifth goes to Stefano Accorsi worth 1 million.
