The Minister for Family, Birth Rate and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Rocellajoked about children born through surrogacy last Saturday the 18th, musing that they should celebrate “Mother’s Day” twice.
The statement was made in response to an opponent’s defense in favor of homosexual couples on the occasion of Father’s Day, celebrated this Sunday 19th in Italy.
“The secretary of +Europe, Riccardo Magi, says who has two parents can celebrate it twice. We propose, by analogy with the children themselves, that on Mother’s Day they also celebrate the two surrogate mothers,” she wrote on Facebook.
Roccella took the opportunity to specify that “the mother who provided the ovum, selected from a catalog to transmit her genetic heritage and to whom the uterus was rented, is generally poor and from the comes from the third world, costs less”.
Magi had posted her message on Twitter in response to a statement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, who insists that families consist of only one father and one mother.
“Family is based on love and tomorrow is Father’s Day. We will continue to ask that the rules be followed and that the birth certificates of LGBTQIA+ families abroad be rewritten. If you have two parents tomorrow, you should be able to celebrate twice.”, wrote the secretary of +Europe.
For his part, Salvini emphasized that “everyone can live their private life, their love, their sexuality as they want and with whom they want, numerically and quantitatively”, but “the world moves on because there are mothers and fathers”.
