Italian rally champion Giulia Maroni has reportedly died after falling 164 feet while walking her dog on the Modena Apennines.
The 37-year-old was said to have been walking her dog with her partner Simona Panzacchi on Sunday afternoon when she slipped and fell off the mountainside.
Maroni, who was climbing the Libro Aperto mountain in the Pizzo dei Sassi Bianchi area, reportedly fell 164 feet, colliding with trees and rocks on the way down.
Maroni's partner is said to have called the emergency services, who arrived on site to transport the rally driver by plane to the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna.
Maroni arrived at the hospital and was treated, but her injuries proved fatal and she died on Sunday evening, January 28th.

The head of the mountain rescue station, Nicolas Barattini, told local media: “We saw immediately that the woman's condition was unfortunately very serious.”
Barattini added: “It was a tragic death, the woman.” [Maroni] “She placed her foot poorly and slipped.”
4X4 Magazine, where Maroni worked as a correspondent and photographer, released the following statement: “The week begins with very bad news.”
“Giulia Maroni, a passionate athlete and off-road rider who also worked with our magazine, died in an accident in the mountains.” Rip Giulia.'
Lina Van De Mars, who placed alongside Maroni in the FIA European Cross-Country Bajas Cup in 2021, paid her respects.
She reportedly wrote, “We have just made new plans for the 2024 season.” It was an honor to meet you. It was a pleasure racing with you.
We are still proud that we became vice-European champions in the world of Baja and rally racing. I'm still in shock. I hope you will have smiles and sunshine.'
Maroni and her partner were regular hikers – they shared pictures of themselves in countries like Montenegro, Croatia and Sicily.
They posted pictures of themselves soaking up the sun while hiking in the Canary Islands and battling the snow while tackling Cima Tuffi in Colombia.
Maroni referred to her trips as “healthy vacations” on her Instagram page and said in one of her posts, “Long live active adventures in the wilderness.”
Maroni was also a passionate rally driver – he won the 2021 Italian Cross-Country Rally and took part in the Dakar Rally as a co-driver and navigator.
Maroni also won the extreme women's race “Shemud” in the forests of Malaysia in 2016.
