During a training exercise, an Italian military acrobatic patrol plane crashed at Turin airport on Saturday September 15th. A 5-year-old girl died.
An MB-339 model trainer aircraft belonging to the Tricolori Frecce, an Italian military acrobatics patrol, lost altitude significantly during its takeoff on Saturday, September 15, from Turin Airport in northern Italy.
The pilot had to eject before the crash. He would not be in serious condition if injured. A few seconds later the plane crashed to the ground. According to Stampa, on Saturday September 16th the aircraft continued to leave the route, hitting several vehicles and causing a very impressive fire.
A five-year-old girl died in the accident
A glowing part of the plane would have come off and hit the car carrying a family, including a five-year-old girl, who lost her life. The girl’s eight-year-old big brother suffered severe burns. Both parents were also injured, but neither is believed to be in serious condition.
They had come to watch the Italian Air Force aircraft train. In fact, a flight to celebrate the Air Force’s centennial was planned for the next day.
Bird risk is taken into account
Birds reportedly got stuck in the reactor of one of the devices. A situation known in aviation as a “bird strike.”
In the videos published by many witnesses on social networks, it can be seen how the device suddenly goes out of its flight path and leaves the training field until the pilot is thrown out of the plane. The driver can also be heard screaming as he sees the plane hit several cars.
The event was canceled following the incident and Turin airport was closed until further notice.
