Italy: Dispute in legal fields over government formation

In Italy’s right-wing camp, which emerged victorious in parliamentary elections, the blessing of the house is uneven. According to the media, former prime minister and head of the conservative right-wing Forza Italia party, Silvio Berlusconi, reacted angrily to election winner Giorgia Meloni’s veto of some ministerial candidates proposed by the media czar for the new government. The latter reacted to Berlusconi’s criticism by saying that she was “not open to blackmail”.

During the first Senate session, Berlusconi noted condescending remarks about Meloni, which he described as “authoritarian, bossy, arrogant and insulting”. Berlusconi’s notebook was photographed from a distance in the Senate, enlarged and published by the Roman daily La Repubblica.

You cannot negotiate with Meloni because she is inflexible, criticized Berlusconi, the winner of the elections and leader of the post-fascist Fratelli d’Italia party, as reported by Italian media.

The backdrop is the dispute over Berlusconi’s confidant, Licia Ronzulli. Berlusconi would put her in the new government, which is due to form next week, as minister of health or education. However, Meloni vetoed the Milanese and does not give in.
