Strange but true

A tiger shark on Thursday killed a Russian man who was swimming on a crowded Egyptian beach – including the man’s own father, according to Russian media reports.
A video circulating on the internet that appears to show the attack shows a huge splash and commotion in the water as the man is dragged under the water as terrified onlookers scream for help.
“It’s eating its remains now,” says a witness who filmed the incident.
Egypt’s Environment Ministry reported on Facebook that a tiger shark was responsible for the man’s death near the Elysees Dream Beach Hotel in the popular Egyptian resort of Hurghada.
Russia’s consul-general in Hurghada, Viktor Voropayev, told local news agency TASS that the victim was 23-year-old Russian “V. Popov,” the Daily Beast said he is not a tourist but has been living in Egypt for several months.

Later it turned out that his name was Vladimir Popov.
According to reports, Popov’s girlfriend managed to escape the water unharmed.
Bystanders claimed they tried to help Popov – to no avail.
“It happened in a second. The rescuers reacted very quickly. For some reason I had an immediate feeling that it was a shark. I immediately jumped up and started screaming, ‘Sharks, sharks!’ Save yourself!’ No one has understood it yet,” a witness told Russian broadcaster REN-TV.
“It’s a horrible thing, this guy’s remains are over there. I’m shivering. Right before my eyes, the shark ate this guy. I think I need something to drink. “I feel really bad,” one woman told Telegram channel Baza.
Authorities say the shark was caught and taken to a lab “for examination and all the information needed to determine the possible causes of the attack.” Water activities in the area were restricted through Sunday.

Shark attacks are rare in the Red Sea coastal regions, although there were two attacks just days apart in Hurghada last year that killed an Austrian and a Romanian tourist.
According to National Geographic, tiger sharks are the second largest sharks after great whites in attacking humans.
“But because they have an almost completely unremarkable palate, they are unlikely to swim away after biting a human, as great white sharks often do,” the outlet noted.
