It’s over for Adam Johnson’s team

The late Adam Johnson’s team, the Nottingham Panthers, have announced that they are withdrawing from the Challenge Cup competition.

The organization announced this on its social networks this week.

During a game in this competition organized by the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), Johnson was cut in the throat by an opposing skate.

On Saturday, October 28, during a duel against the Sheffield Steelers, Johnson caught Matt Petgrave’s blade right in the neck when the two skaters collided. The former Pittsburgh Penguins player died as a result of the injury.

The Panthers’ withdrawal means three games, including one against the Steelers, will not take place.

“We would like to thank fans once again for their support during this difficult time and will provide a further update on our fixtures in the coming days, including details of postponed league games and rearranged dates,” the Nottingham team’s statement said an explanation.
