Before Tom Brady retired and returned to the Buccaneers, we reported that the Dolphins were mulling a package deal between Brady and former Saints coach Sean Payton, a plan that was thwarted by a lawsuit with Brian Flores.
Now that the Dolphins seem to have everything but a franchise quarterback (sorry TuAnon), talk of Brady heading to Miami has been scrapped.
Dale Arnold stated on WEEI radio Thursday that he wouldn’t be surprised if Brady went to the Dolphins and that he heard the parties “working on it“. (Apparently, Arnold was the first person to tell the Pirates that Brady was imprisoned in 2020. I don’t know if that’s the case, and I’m not inclined to follow two-year-old tweets to confirm or deny this.)
As much as I love chaos, this seems like a big stretch. Brady returned just in time to stop the Bucks from hitting Deshawn Watson or some other quarterback who could replace Brady. (However, they can still get Baker Mayfield, a clear favorite of coach Bruce Arians.) In addition, Brady has been actively recruiting players such as center Ryan Jensen, defenseman Logan Ryan and running back Leonard Furnett to sign with the team. If Brady leaves now, he will make an even bigger and more unexpected U-turn than the one Aaron Rodgers has made in recent months.
Is it 2023 now? It’s a different story. Then Miami could make sense. For now, however, the thought of Brady leaving the Bucks seems even harder to imagine than the idea of him retiring and returning in just 40 days.
