The Gist A 27-year-old young man was stuck in his damaged pickup truck for 6 days. He survived by drinking rainwater and was rescued by two fishermen.
“It is a miracle that this gentleman is still alive today.” According to rescuers, an extraordinary rescue took place near Chicago (USA) in recent days. A 27-year-old American man was rescued after being trapped in his wrecked pickup truck for almost a week. The young victim said one way he was able to survive was by drinking rainwater.
The young man was rescued by two fishermen. They were approaching a huge river near the Great Lakes in the northern United States when they saw a bright spot under a bridge near the river. As they approached, they both discovered a man trapped behind an airbag. “The moment I touched his shoulder he rolled over and woke up. He was alive and very happy to see us,” said Mario Garcia, one of the two fishermen. I’ve never seen anyone so relieved.”
“It's a miracle”
The two men finally called for help. He had great difficulty freeing the young man from his vehicle. The 27-year-old young man suffered “serious injuries” and was flown to the nearest hospital. This Tuesday, December 26th, his vital prognosis was still in jeopardy. “It's a miracle that this gentleman is still alive today and that these two gentlemen made it to this creek,” Glen Fifield of the Indiana State Police said at a news conference.
An investigation has been launched to determine how the pickup ended up under the road. It was impossible for motorists traveling on Interstate 94 to see the young man's vehicle. The victim told his rescuers that he was stuck for almost a week and couldn't get his phone. “He said he screamed and screamed, but no one heard him,” the two fishermen said. The cold has recently reached the USA: “It probably wouldn’t last another day,” says Mario Garcia.
