Crypto investor Sina Estavi was known to have bought the first-ever tweet NFT from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey for $2.9 million last year. Just last week, Estavi put the NFT up for sale for $48 million.
While the opening bid seemed to signal that the tweet could be a hot commodity, the top bid on the tweet closed at $280, a far cry from the original price. Last week he took to Twitter to announce the resale of the NFT and donate over 50% of the proceeds to charity. At the time the auction closed on OpenSea, there were only seven bids between 0.0019 ETH (approx. 6 USD) and 0.09 ETH (approx. 277 USD). Estavi currently has two days to accept the bid, otherwise it will expire. He told CoinDesk, “The deadline I set was up, but if I get a good offer, I might take it, I might never sell it.”
Estavi is currently in the midst of recovering his Bridge Oracle Tokens after his operations collapsed following his arrest in Iran last year. BRG investors are still waiting for Estavi to exchange the old tokens for the new ones. However, the process has to be done manually and takes up to two months.
I decided to sell this NFT (the world’s first ever tweet) and donate 50% of the proceeds ($25 million or more) to the charity @GiveDirectly
