According to the city mayor in an interview with a television station, several people were killed in a shooting attack on a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida (USA) this Saturday, 26th.
Donna Deegan told WJXT that there had been “a number of deaths” at the store, but didn’t give an exact number. Police officers were located near Edward Waters University, a small, historically black institution. “This is unacceptable,” Deegan told the broadcaster. “A single shot attack is too much, but these mass attacks are really hard to take.”
Jacksonville City Council member Ju’Coby Pittman told WJXT that the shooter was dead. She didn’t give any details either. “My heart is heavy,” he said.
Edward Waters University students were being held in their dormitories. No students or teachers were involved in the attack, the school said in a statement.

Former chain employee Penny Jones said she worked at the $1 variety store until a few months ago. She lives a few blocks from the crime scene in a mostly black neighborhood. “I’m just waiting to hear about my colleagues I’ve worked with,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s safe to walk around the neighborhood.”
Jones added that she felt “weird and scared.” “I don’t want to leave the house. I think: Do I want to go back to the store? Will this happen more often? I don’t know what is causing this. I’m “We’re confused. So many different feelings are getting mixed up right now,” she said.
The shooting came five years after a gunman opened fire during a video game tournament in Jacksonville, killing two people before shooting himself.
