Jacksonville waives ex-linebacker from Alabama

The Jacksonville Jaguars started their offseason program Monday without Dylan Moses. The Jaguars waived the former Alabama All-American and announced the transaction in a one-sentence statement Monday.

Moses leaves Jacksonville without playing for the Jaguars.

Moses, the lead tackler for Alabama’s undefeated 2020 CFP National Championship team, went undrafted last year and signed with Jacksonville as a rookie free agent.

When training camp began in July, the Jaguars put Moses on the non-football injury list, a designation that prevented him from training.

The non-football injury designation meant Moses picked up his injury outside of team activity – in his case, before joining the Jaguars in May – not necessarily outside of football.

Moses tore an anterior cruciate ligament in August 2019, and the knee injury sat him out this season. In 2020, Moses played most of the season with another knee injury and underwent surgery on February 9 to repair a torn meniscus.

When the regular season started, the Jaguars put Moses on reserve/non-football injury. On December 22, Moses trained with the team for the first time, but he was never accepted into the active squad after returning to the field.

Moses, a 2017 SEC All-Freshman selection, was a finalist for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation’s top linebacker, after leading the Crimson Tide in tackles in 2018.

After missing the 2019 season, Moses bounced back and was recognized by the American Football Coaches Association as a First-Team All-American in 2020.

The Jaguars are experiencing a changing of the guard at linebacker this offseason. Jacksonville fired six-year starter Myles Jack and signed Foye Oluokun, the NFL’s lead tackler of 2020, from the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.
