Elaborating on the late singer’s mannerisms, he added: “Yeah, when you watch him move and talk, there’s an energy that kind of comes from deep, deep inside him, so I just kept trying – because I’m a little short.” “a little lankier and more awkward than him – so I tried to find that charisma in your hips.”

Sofia Coppola directs the film, which is based on Priscilla’s 1985 memoir Elvis And Me. Cailee Spaeny, 26, plays Priscilla.

Elvis lived from 1935 to 1977.

The biopic revolves around the volatile relationship between Elvis and Priscilla, now 78, who met when she was only 14 and he was 24.

They married in 1967 and had daughter Lisa Marie the following year before divorcing in 1973.

He told Hoda Kotb on the Today show on Tuesday: “Seeing the movie with Priscilla in Venice was completely surreal and watching her look at her life through her eyes was played to her.”

Hoda, 59, said: “It must have been wild for you.” “I mean, you play Elvis in this movie.”

Jacob replied, “Yes.” “It felt a little intrusive, so I sat there a little stiff.”

During their interview, Jacob also praised his co-star Cailee, praising her as “an incredibly talented actress.”

“She was my best friend during filming,” he said. “Yeah, I really needed that support, like someone believing in me.”

He went on to detail how he got the role, revealing that he received an email requesting his participation in a breakfast with Sofia.

“I had just received an email saying Sofia Coppola wanted to have breakfast,” he recalled.

“So I went to the Beverly Hills Hotel and had breakfast with her. She didn’t mention it.

“But then a few weeks later I had the application slides in my email and it just said “Elvis” at the top and that was it.”

Sofia revealed that Priscilla had been “complimentary” supportive of her work – although she was initially “hesitant” about the project.

Speaking to W Magazine, she said: “[Priscilla] was open and praised my work, but was a bit hesitant.

“I sent Priscilla the script and she went through it page by page and gave me specific details, like, ‘I didn’t have a teddy bear on my bed.’

“But I ended up reinventing some things, like Elvis’ bedroom.” “I wanted him to have a man cave – very dark and mysterious.”

But not everyone was so enthusiastic: members of Elvis’ estate criticized the project, branding Sofia’s script and direction “horrible.”
