Jacques Martin returns to the Senators

Jacques Martin returns to the Ottawa Senators’ fold as they hired him as a special advisor to the coaching staff on Wednesday.

It is therefore a return for the team’s former head coach, who was the pilot behind the bench of the “Sens” between 1996 and 2004. The Ottawa club had given him his second experience in this position in his career, as he had previously been manager of the St. Louis Blues from 1986 to 1988.

He notably won the Jack Adams Trophy in 1998–1999 and led the Canadian federal capital to the Presidents’ Trophy in 2003.

Martin also coached the Florida Panthers from 2005 to 2008 and the Montreal Canadiens from 2009 to 2012.

In 1,294 games as a head coach, Martin maintained a record of 613-481-119-81.

After a season outside the National Hockey League, the 71-year-old began a long adventure with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2013 and 2020, particularly as an assistant to the head coach. During that time, he won two Stanley Cups with the organization.

The former CH then moved to the New York Rangers for one season, still as an assistant coach.

Most recently, Martin was named special advisor to the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OHL) since 2022.
