Since the beginning of summer we’ve been wondering where Jagmeet Singh is hiding. Because the last time we heard from the leader of the NDP was when he signed an alliance with the Liberals last March.
Even at the start of the summer, when there was chaos at the airports and Service Canada offices, Mr Singh was absent. Suppose he must have bitten his fingers for forming an alliance with such a dysfunctional government.
dental care
On Monday morning, however, the NDP leader came out of hiding to say that if a new dental care program does not see the light of day by the end of the year, the agreement with the Liberal government is no longer tenable.
According to the agreement between the NDP and the PLC, “The program would initially target children under 12 in 2022, and then extend to children under 18, the elderly and people with disabilities in 2023 before full implementation in 2025.” .
This program would be set up for families earning less than $90,000 a year, and “those earning less than $70,000 a year would not make a co-payment.”
The agreement’s other key measure is to “work toward the implementation of a universal drug insurance plan.” A measure that will cost the federal government several billion dollars.
regret ?
Does Mr. Singh regret signing such an agreement? Most likely.
Now he has no choice but to try and demand tangible results to meet his demands.
For his part, Justin Trudeau will have to find a way to please the New Democrats. Unless he wants to restart the country through elections before the new Conservative leader has time to take possession of his new post.
