James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has pleaded NOT GUILTY to running into the dangerous Yellowstone hot spring

  • Pierce Brosnan pleaded not guilty after being charged with allegedly trespassing at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park
  • The alleged incident is said to have occurred in November last year when he allegedly veered off a sidewalk and entered a cordoned off area
  • Leaving designated trails is punishable by up to six months in jail or a $5,000 fine. The action star has a new court date set for next month

Actor Pierce Brosnan has pleaded not guilty to charges of allegedly hiking into a “sensitive” and dangerous protected hot spring in Yellowstone National Park.

According to Cowboy State Daily, the James Bond star filed a written complaint in the U.S. District Court for Wyoming on January 4 regarding the November 2023 incident.

Judge Stephanie A. Hambrick granted the 70-year-old's request to cancel his initial appearance and instead called a virtual conference for February 20.

Brosnan has been charged twice over the alleged violations at the thermals in the park's Mammoth Terraces area and was scheduled to appear in court on January 23.

The alleged crimes are said to have taken place on November 1st. A photo uploaded to an account depicting Yellowstone “tourons” (tourist idiots) showed him on the snow-covered springs.

Brosnan undertook his hike despite having previously starred in a film highlighting the potential dangers of such springs – Dante's Peak.

The 1997 film follows volcanologist Harry Dalton, played by Brosnan, in the fictional town of Dante's Peak, where citizens struggle to withstand an eruption.

In one scene, Brosnan's character stumbles upon two people who have been boiled to death in a hot spring.

According to court documents filed earlier this month, Brosnan was charged with walking in a thermal area and violating lockdown.

The Mammoth Terraces are a popular feature in Yellowstone and are constantly changing in color and activity.

Federal regulations require visitors to national parks to stay on designated walkways.

Leaving the boardwalk is punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

The Irish star had been in the area to film The Unholy Trinity, a western starring Brosnan as a sheriff opposite Samuel L. Jackson.

Brosnan is just the latest tourist to try to break the rules in the stunning national park.

At least 22 people have died as a result of burns in the springs and geysers of Yellowstone National Park.

They include Colin Nathaniel Scott, who is believed to have dissolved in the hot, acidic water after leaving the boardwalk at the park's Norris Geyser Basin in 2015 in search of a place to swim.

Likewise, 70-year-old Il Hun Ro's foot was discovered by a national park employee after he apparently fell into it.

In 2021, a Connecticut woman was sentenced to seven days in jail, a $2,000 fine, and a two-year ban from Yellowstone for leaving the sidewalk and approaching thermals.

Water temperatures at the Mammoth Terraces springs regularly rise to 161 degrees, while some springs in Yellowstone National Park can have a pH as high as 2 on the pH scale – just one mark above stomach acid.

In June, a shocking video emerged of a couple ignoring warnings as they tried to touch 175-degree geysers elsewhere in the park.

A woman was seen screaming in pain as she dipped her hand into the hot springs.

The clip was shared on the Instagram page TouronsofYellowstone, which regularly documents abuses and misconduct at the park.

Recently, a tourist was seen destroying delicate moose vegetation by driving a car off the road.

In addition to his four James Bond films, Brosnan starred in the 1980s television series “Remington Steele” and is known for roles in the films “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “The Thomas Crown Affair”.
