The Brit, 43, made the decision to quit at the end of Season 8 despite the best efforts of CBS executives, who exclusively told they were “desperately trying to keep him longer.”

‘We [CBS] I was desperate to keep him longer but James just wanted to do a final year that will keep him on the show until next year,” revealed a senior CBS source. “He has been such a hit with us for so many years, we will miss him dearly.”
“It’s very rare to find talent who can redefine a long-running format. His skits went viral around the world, breaking records and creating the most watched online clips in late night TV history,” they continued.
“The biggest stars in the world have appeared on his show – which has even taken him to the White House!”
Under Corden’s tenure on The Late Late Show, he developed hit segments like Carpool Karaoke, where he drives a celebrity around and they sing together. Carpool Karaoke later spun off into its own show for Apple in 2017 and even took home an Emmy Award. It is currently in its fifth season.

“He told us he had a great time and is incredibly grateful to CBS, but that now is the right time to aim high and make his senior year the greatest yet,” a CBS source said.
“James and the show won countless Emmys, he won a Critics Choice and a 2012 Tony Award before he took up his post at CBS. He instantly won critics and fans, as well as the big celebrities he could win.’
The father-of-three has previously referred to his team on the show as his family, even paying them out of pocket during the pandemic.
However, James’ time at the station was not without controversy. In 2021, the show was forced to alter one of Corden’s more famous skits, Spill Your Guts, after it was accused of being anti-Asian.

The segment, which starred the likes of Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Chrissy Teigen, sees contestants given the choice of either answering a nosy question or eating something described as “gross.”
Some of the inedible items came from Asian culture, and Corden himself had described many of them as “disgusting.”
Last summer, a TikTok user started the Change.org petition, which garnered nearly 50,000 signatures, and James later announced on The Howard Stern Show that he would no longer use Asian foods in that segment.
In addition to his own show, James has hosted the Tony Awards and Grammy Awards, and hosted other primetime shows for CBS and the infamous Friends reunion for HBO Max.
He also has a film career with starring roles in films such as Peter Rabbit, Prom, Into the Woods, Trolls and Cats.
He will be starring in new Prime Video drama Mammals later this year – his first UK TV role since his Gavin And Stacey Christmas special, which broke records as the most-watched non-spring event in the UK over the past decade.
