James Gunn shoots down claim Gal Gadot was ‘kicked’ from DC Universe after ‘Wonder Woman 3’ was canceled

James Gunn and Peter Safran were tasked with shaking up the DC Universe while discarding several ideas from the past regime such as Henry Cavill’s return as Superman and Patty Jenkins’ takeover wonder woman 3.

Many fans have speculated that Gal Gadot had been “booted” by DC with the cancellation of the third part of the Wonder Woman film. However, Gunn provided some clarity on Gadot and where she currently stands.

“I’m not sure how you’re assuming we ‘booted out’ Gal,” Gunn replied.

Gunn’s response could be interpreted one of two ways: 1. Gadot is still working with DC on a future Wonder Woman appearance, or 2. Gadot left DC of his own volition amid the restructuring.

Jenkins’ treatment for Wonder Woman 3 was rejected by the new DC regime as it did not fit with the plans Gunn and Safran have for the DC Universe.

“I never went away. I was open to whatever was asked of me. It was my understanding that there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this point. DC is obviously buried in changes they need to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now,” Jenkins said in a statement.

Prior to the news that Wonder Woman 3 would not be starring Jenkins, Gadot shared a hopeful message that he would be sharing the superhero’s “next chapter” with fans.

“A few years ago it was announced that I would be playing Wonder Woman. I was so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character, and more than anything, I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. I can’t wait to share her next chapter with you,” Gadot shared on social media.

Gunn has received a lot of backlash for his choices as the DC Universe takes a new direction. The Suicide Squad director addressed fans in a series of tweets, calling out the “disrespectful outcry”.

“Our decisions for the DCU are based on what we think is best for the story and best for the DC characters that have been around for nearly 85 years. Maybe these decisions are great, maybe not, but they are made with a sincere heart and integrity and always with history in mind,” he tweeted.

Gunn continued, “We knew there would be a period of turbulence as we embarked on this gig, and we knew that sometimes we had to make difficult and not-so-obvious decisions, especially after the contradictory nature of what had gone before us. ”
