James Haskell is attacking estranged wife Chloe Madeley, claiming he has no money to give her in the divorce because he has been 'cancelled too many times'.

James Haskell hit out at his estranged wife Chloe Madeley, joking she won't get any money if they divorce.

The former rugby union player, 38, spoke about his marriage as he appeared in Bath on Friday for the last of 17 shows of the World Cup Afterparty: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – a live version of his rugby podcast.

Along with podcast co-hosts Mike Tindall and Alex Payne, the athlete spoke about his relationship with Chloe – who he split in September – saying she was unreasonable, overly critical and insensitive, as well as unfair in arguments.

He went on to joke that he had hidden all that money overseas to avoid having to pay out Chloe, 36, in her divorce, before claiming that he actually had no money for her at all because he had been out of money since the split had been canceled so many times.

James began the two-hour show with a tirade about divorce and addressed the audience by saying, “First, ladies and gentlemen.” I imagine some of you are doing it very unsubtly. Please no filming of this show. I'm in the newspapers often enough at the moment!'

He continued: “Please don't film it, just post it on social media.” What's happening now is that everything I say goes out of my mouth and into your own personal filters. And some of you (perhaps) had a somewhat troubled childhood or are very easily offended.

“I don't want you to think about what I say and think you're offended and then post it.” Because I need the money because I'm about to lose half of it.

'This is true. Assuming she (Chloe) can find it. I always forget where I put it – the Cayman Islands, Switzerland. No, I don't have a pot to p**k at the moment.'

Mike then joked: “I love the fact that you think you're smart enough to hide your money,” to which James replied: “It's just the stuff I keep under the bed.” “So many times I've been canceled , I don’t have a pot left to sink my teeth into.”

A few moments later, James makes up an anecdote about his friend Mike, who is married to Princess Anne's daughter Zara – apparently with the sole intention of giving Chloe another inconspicuous swipe.

He began: “Mike’s personality is, as Zara told us, “annoyingly honest Mike.” He sounds like a great person, but he's not. It comes out after eight bottles of rosé and three bottles of red wine.

“Then he basically tells you everything you've ever done wrong and everything you've ever done wrong, with no regard for any sensitivity – or everything he's ever done wrong – and also completely out of context.” And with He will not be argued with and will not be argued with, right.'

After a brief pause for dramatic effect, James continued, “Sounds like my wife, actually.”

He then corrected himself and said, “Actually ex-wife,” before adding, “No.” It's not official yet. Don't put this in the newspaper.'

James later recalled a story in which he “got to meet a lawyer who's a friend of mine,” before adding, “He's more of a business partner now” – a nod to the long time he's been with lately the divorce has spent lawyers.

Taking to Instagram this week, the personal trainer revealed that they had enjoyed a lunch together at the pub, sharing a snap of the couple on a night out with their daughter.

Chloe announced in September that she and her husband had split after five years, just days after their tumultuous relationship played out on her reality series Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair.

Last week her father Richard Madeley, 67, said he was proud of how the couple had handled the split.

“It's a very civilized, grown-up situation,” he told the Chron at the Kenwood Light Trail in Hampstead, north London, at Christmas.

“We're still a family.” James and Chloe's split is very amicable and they get on really well.”

Of his son-in-law, he added: “He was in the house three or four nights ago having a drink and we're all having Christmas dinner together.”

Chloe told The Sun at the same event: “I've already booked all the adults in our family for The Nutcracker.” “We're all spending Christmas together and James will be there.”

And despite the split, Chloe revealed she is planning a second series of her ITV2 reality TV show, saying: “We have pitched it and are waiting to hear it.” Although the focus will primarily be on me , everyone will still be involved, (my) parents and James, because we co-parent very well.”

Ahead of their split, Chloe James told her reality show that she was “embarrassed” after her followers tagged her in photos of him surrounded by women in a bikini in Ibiza

The couple, who married in 2018, first fueled speculation about their split after Chloe appeared without her wedding ring while partying with friends – shortly after James was seen chatting to a mystery blonde outside a London nightspot.

Chloe confirmed she had split from her husband James in a joint statement released in October.

In a joint update shared on Instagram, the couple, who starred in their own ITV reality show Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair this year, announced: “Chloe and I have mutually agreed to separate at the end of September 2023 decided.”

“We had no intention of releasing a statement at this time – especially not while the television program was airing – but constant speculation about our marriage unfortunately forced us to do so.”

She added: “Beyond this statement, we will not be speaking publicly about this matter and ask for privacy at this time.”

“Our only focus now is our beautiful daughter. “We will continue to co-parent with nothing but love.”

James shared his own statement on Instagram, adding: “It is with great sadness that I write this post, but unfortunately in the world we live in it must be done.”

“My priority is the happiness and safety of my daughter and Chloe. “For this reason, I will not be commenting further.”

Last month, Chloe spoke publicly about her split for the first time, with the television personality reflecting on the end of her five-year marriage after the topic was raised by a fan on social media.

She later went into more detail about the breakup and said that after a difficult time, she finally felt “happy” again.

Chloe and James will spend Christmas together.

Speaking exclusively to Web, Chloe opened up about her “normal” Christmas plan for the benefit of her daughter Bodhi.

She said: “Christmas will be a real family affair, me, my mum and dad, Bodhi and James.”

“That will be lovely because as much as possible I want Bodhi to have a real sense of family and togetherness at Christmas and it's important to both James and me that we do that.”

“We don’t know how long this will be possible, but we will do it as long as possible.”

“I want Bodhi to not only have a strong feeling for mom and dad, but also a strong feeling for the family as a unit.”

And speaking of being single at Christmas, she added: “People might find this hard to believe, but I'm really in a good place.”

“I think back to times in my life when I achieved the most professionally and was happiest in my personal life, and that was always when I was single, so I'm not too nervous about that next chapter.

“I have Bodhi, who I call my 'funnel of love'. I can just channel love into her and get her back, so I feel pretty solid and secure and okay with everything.”
