James Maddison's £170,000-a-week salary could buy you a lot of things, but it didn't buy his girlfriend a cheap rose as they went out to eat on Tuesday night.
The Tottenham Hotspur and England star invited his partner Kennedy Alexa to an early Valentine's Day meal in Mayfair but skipped buying her a plastic-wrapped rose from a local retailer after being approached on the street.
However, he made up for it by whisking her away for a lavish meal at Russian Novikov, one of Mayfair's more exclusive bar-restaurants, where the cheapest white wine costs £60 a glass and vodka is served from a Fabergé Imperial Collection decanter, with a Jeweled Egg for a staggering £5,500.
While the Novikov website calls for a “chic and elegant” dress code, Maddison, 27, showed up to his pre-Valentine's Day dinner in a wool hat, baggy chinos and sneakers.
Luckily, 29-year-old Alexa, who raises three children with the footballer, received the memo, with the American model turning heads in a stylish black minidress and high heels.

The couple were approached by a street vendor outside the upscale eatery as they left later that evening, but Maddison passed up buying his partner a rose.
Alexa gave birth to twins Delilah and Rome last July. The model later shared a photo of her newborn babies with the caption: “Meet Delilah and Rome Maddison on 02/07/23 – our family is complete.”
The couple, who have been together for four years, are also parents to son Leo, born in July 2021.
They were showered with congratulations from their friends, including Harry Kane's wife Kate, who wrote: “Congratulations.”
Danielle Fogarty, Carl Fogarty's daughter, commented: “So perfect, congratulations.”
Elsewhere, Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw's girlfriend Anouska Santos said the children were “perfect”.
Maddison and Alexa made their romance public in an Instagram post on Christmas Eve 2020.
The couple kept their relationship quite private and it is not known how they met or when they met.

Kennedy, who is originally from England, previously lived in Los Angeles and shared snaps of herself attending baseball games and hiking in Runyon Canyon.
She makes a living as a model and has previously appeared in an advertising campaign for online boutique Princess Polly and swimwear brand Montce.
Maddison recently returned to Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side after recovering from an ankle injury that has kept him out of action since November.
The footballer, who moved to Spurs from Leicester City for £40 million in the summer, is also expected to play a role for Gareth Southgate and England at the upcoming 2024 European Championships.
