Jamie Foxx shared a video on Instagram in which he made emotional comments about his hospitalization earlier in the year.
The 55-year-old singer and actor was hospitalized in April 2023 for unknown reasons. His daughter Corinne said he “had a medical complication,” but didn’t elaborate. In his video, Foxx didn’t say why he was hospitalized, but credited his sister, Deidra Dixon and daughter, and “many great medical professionals” for “saving his life.”
“I went through something I thought I would never experience,” Foxx said in the video. “I know a lot of people have been waiting, you know, wanting to hear news, but to be honest, I just didn’t want you to see me … with hoses running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it.”

Foxx also took the time to debunk rumors that had been circulating about his condition.
“Sometimes when I’m quiet, things get out of hand. …Some people said I was blind, but as you can see the eyes are working, the eyes are working quite well. They said I was paralyzed, I’m not paralyzed, but I got through it — I’ve been through hell and back,” Foxx said, adding that his “road to recovery also had some bumps.”
“But I’m coming back and I can work, so I want to say thank you to the people who let me work,” Foxx added, getting visibly emotional. “And I just want to say that I love everyone and love all the love that I’ve been given.”
John Boyega, who stars alongside Foxx and Teyonah Parris in the recently released Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone, showed his support for Foxx via Twitter on Saturday with a photo of himself and Foxx and a post that read, “Wishing you nothing but continued success and good health in the long run.” NO weapon aimed at you will succeed.”
I’m glad you’re happy, brother. Always looking out for all of us and remains one of the most sincere souls in the game. Little did I know we would be collaborating two years after I asked you for this picture. What a blessing! I wish you continued success and health… pic.twitter.com/RrZsTLp7vt
