Olympic runner Jana Pittman reveals the heartbreaking moment her newborn twins were placed in special care after birth

Jana Pittman experienced a scare no parent should have this April when her newborn twins were placed in special care right after birth.

The former Olympic runner, 40, opened up on Thursday’s Morning Show about the terrifying moment she couldn’t hold her babies as they were being carted away.

She said she was lying there after the birth and wasn’t sure what would happen to her children, who were born premature at 34 weeks.

“They came into special care and you don’t know what’s going to happen if those babies come early,” she said.

“At 34 weeks you think they will be fine coming home with you so it was heartbreaking to see them in these cribs and not being able to touch them as often as you would like.

“Then there are the feeding tubes and the stress and anxiety of not being the mom you think you want to be.”

The mother-of-six went on to say she “cried so much” because she hoped “they would go right on my chest and come home the next day.”

Her twins, Quinlan and Willow, were allowed home after two weeks in the special ward.

At the time, she admitted she was worried about her growing family’s “logistical nightmare.”

She told the publication: “I never thought I’d have six kids, I don’t know how we’re going to handle that. How do we all fit in my car? I can see that life will be a logistical nightmare.

The athlete-turned-physician went on to confirm that she will no longer have children and looks forward to spending the rest of her life surrounded by her Brady Bunch family.
