A record follows a wave of layoffs that started last Monday (17) and just fired the moderator today (19) Janine Borba. She has been on the station since 2004 and is currently working as an anchor for the JR 24hour block. Record is struggling to pay off half a billion reais in debt, according to its 2022 financial statements, and new names are yet to be announced in the coming days.
As found out by NaTelinha, the channel’s focus is on high salaries and that they don’t produce as much as they used to in the journalism department. It was the first time the channel had posted a loss in three years. In 2021, the company achieved a profit of R$130.503 million; in 2020 it was R$143.678 million; and BRL 50.4 million in 2019. In recent months, Edir Macedo’s broadcaster has made changes to its business model that may involve trying to reverse the nearly billiondollar loss.
