Like every month, PlayStation + subscribers are entitled to free games. And this 2023 starts in style as Sony will offer the Electronic Arts game based on the famous Star Wars license released in November 2019 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Sort of a preamble to get players salivating ahead of the March 17th, 2023 arrival of the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Fallen Order is set after the events of Episode III and the formation of Order 66, which calls for the annihilation of all living Jedi. You follow the story of Cal Kestis, the last Jedi Padawan and the Force’s last hope for survival. You must continue Jedi training using the Force and lightsaber while staying in the shadows to avoid being found by the servants of the Empire. A true work in its own right from the Star Wars universe, available for PS4 and PS5, described as “a great Star Wars single player game” in the Gamekult review, available here.
Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the game is accompanied by two other less notable titles. The former is not discreet by its quality, quite the contrary, but rather by its manufacture. Axiom Verge 2 is the product of one man, Thomas Happ, both developer and publisher of his own franchise. Like many nostalgics, he has set himself the task of reviving as best he can the Metroid license with its pixels, its 2D graphics and its very special environment. Explore two worlds using forgotten technologies in this unparalleled platformer. If the first part should be Metroid-like, Gamekult describes this opus as Castlevania in Metroid or “Metroidvania”. Guaranteed time travel for PS4 and PS5 owners. You can find the Gamekult test here.
The second game is notable for its mediocrity. If you never say no to a free-to-play game, Fallout 76 is clearly on the third tier of this pick, as it puts the license to shame. A post-apocalyptic game made up of little things so as not to throw away the multiplayer fiasco that Fallout 76 was at its release. Fallout 76 is not worthy of the two excellent previous works and leaves a pre-chewed warm taste despite a few rare flashes of inspiration. Saved by atmosphere and music, Fallout 76 is still worth a little detour, especially since you’re only paying with your time and PS4 owners will be lucky enough to have it exclusively.
