It sounds like a scifi story, but a Japanese startup is actually developing a floating city in an amazing project.
Nicknamed “Noah’s Ark,” the futuristic structure is a nod to the biblical term for a giant boat capable of carrying people and animals. It will accommodate up to 40,000 people.

According to the Japanese press, the floating city will be called Dogen City and, as already mentioned, will have a complete infrastructure for 40,000 people.
There will be tourism sectors, hospitals and even a space rocket launch area. Dogen City would be a solution to possible future sea level rise caused by climate change on Earth.
The floating city development emerged from the New Ocean innovation project in a publicprivate partnership in Japan. As already mentioned, the goal is to promote solutions against natural disasters that may occur in the future.

With a capacity to accommodate about 30,000 tourists per month, Dogen City is designed to withstand various weather conditions, including the possibility of a tsunami, according to NArk.
According to the company, the city will consume about 2 million liters of water annually, produce 3,288 tons of waste, 7,000 tons of food and 22,265,000 KW of energy.
The city is approximately 1.58 km in diameter and 4 km in circumference and follows the Japanese concept of “1 ri, 1 hora”. Although it functions like a city, the habitability is similar to that of a small village.
According to the authorities involved in the floating city project, completion is scheduled for 2050. Until then, new information about Dogen City should be gradually released by the world press.
