Jared Padalecki is lucky to be alive after a car accident

Rest and recover. Jensen Ackles revealed his Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki missed a fan event in New Jersey while recovering from a car accident.

“I miss my mate,” Ackles, 44, said to the crowd in East Brunswick when he performed solo at Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural Official Conventions on Sunday, April 24.”[Padalecki] sends his love. I spoke to him yesterday. He’s sad that he can’t be here.”

The 39-year-old Walker star issued a brief apology on Thursday, April 21. “Hey #SpnFamily! Sorry to miss you in NYC this weekend. Thank you and the #WalkerFamily for all the love and support. I can’t wait to see you all again. 🙏❤️,” he wrote via Twitter.

Ackles assured the audience that he spoke to his fellow Texas native, who said it was fine for his former co-star to share some details with the audience.

“He was in a very bad car accident,” the Boys star explained, drawing a gasp from worried fans. “He didn’t drive. He was in the passenger seat and he is lucky to be alive.”

Ackles, who played Padalecki’s brother on the CW hit series for 15 seasons, added that there were no fatalities related to the accident. However, the Radio Company singer was shocked that Padalecki wasn’t even in the hospital.

“He’s recovering at home, which — the fact that he’s not in the hospital right now blows my mind because I saw the car,” he said.

When the collision happened, the vehicle’s airbags inflated, leaving Padalecki exhausted. “This airbag packs a punch,” added Ackles. “He says, ‘I feel like I did 12 laps with Tyson.’ But he’s fine and moving. But yes, [it was a] really, really bad car accident. Just keep him in your thoughts, send him some love whenever you get a chance to be on social media and he will be with us again soon.”

The former co-stars made headlines last year when the Gilmore Girls alum found out about the Ackles-produced supernatural prequel series, titled The Winchesters, through social media rather than in person.

“Dude. Good for you. I wish I had heard about this other than Twitter. Looking forward to watching but disappointed Sam Winchester had no involvement,” Padalecki tweeted in June 2021.

However, the two quickly made amends. “@JensenAckles and I had a great chat, as we often do, and things are good. The show is early in the process and still has miles to go. We’ve traveled many roads together and sometimes those damn roads have bumps,” he tweeted a day later. “Unevenness doesn’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers.”

Since then, the two have appeared together at several conventions, and Ackles has directed an episode of Padalecki’s show, Walker.

The New York Minute star is married Genevieve Padalecki (née Cortese), and they share three children: Thomas, 10, Shep, 8, and Odette, 5.
