He breaks the silence 14 days after the Superior Court ruled that awarded him $385,000 in damages and empowered him to bring new allegations of abuse of procedure.

Jean Charest made the announcement during a major interview with Paul Larocque that will air tonight at 7pm on Le Bilan.

“We will do it. It is a special request called abuse of procedure and it is exceptional when the other party has abused the procedure to trick you into incurring additional costs and additional steps,” explains he.

“Basically, UPAC designed a parallel justice system to try people. It’s a direct threat to our judicial institutions, it’s very, very serious what has been done and we have to say it and learn from it,” starts the former leader of the Liberal Party.

“First and foremost, we must ensure that those responsible are held accountable. It’s not over, the BEI is investigating,” he argues.

Mr. Charest sued the state for unlawful disclosure of his personal information by the Anti-Corruption Commissioner.

In April 2017, the Journal de Montréal revealed that Jean Charest had been put under police surveillance as part of the Mâchurer probe into the funding of the Quebec Liberal Party, thanks to a source within UPAC. This investigation was also closed in February 2022 without charges.

Jean Charest has also told Paul Larocque that he would be very proud if his son followed in his footsteps in politics.

The name of Antoine Charest has been circulating in political circles for some time.

“He has more talent than I do,” the ex-premier immediately admits.

“He was offered it at the last election but it will be his decision. I wish him happiness and self-fulfillment.”

“He has a lot of talent and if he decides to start one day, I’ll be happy,” added Jean Charest.
