Since the exercise is primarily about addiction, the actor had a lot to say on the subject of having struggled with addiction himself.
Finally, Maripier Morin addressed the death of Jean-Marie’s mother, who died from her severe drinking problems:

Shouldn’t she find nothing stronger as medicine than her alcohol? So introduce us, us are there, my father, my sisters and I, his family, his loved ones and we watch helplessly a very slow drowning…it’s horrific, it’s horrible!

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Jean-Marie Lapointe managed to see the positive in this tragedy and made it a personal quest:
“At the same time, I think it’s a poorly wrapped gift; to have seen this suffering and that of mine and my father. Having seen this addiction allows me today to come in contact with a suffering person and not to judge. I know her the disease e*ti. I know it in my gut, in my demeanor, he revealed with sternness. And my mother’s death was also a poorly wrapped gift, because it made me realize at 26 that death exists; It hurts when you lose a loved one and realize you will go through it too […] Everything you love will come to an end, and you will taste it too. It was an awakening of my own finiteness. My own end of life,” he concluded, pointing out that for this reason he practiced end-of-life care with the dying of all ages, but especially with young people.
