Jean Ravel embarks on a new adventure. He is preparing a show based on the songs of Claude Dubois that he will present on June 10th at the Confessionnal of the Théâtre Capitole.
In parallel to his musical review “Rock Story” and his other projects, the Quebec singer wants to present this show entitled “Ravel Sings Dubois” all over Quebec.
That adventure took shape when he attended the open house benefit show at the Maison Dauphine for the third straight year last November, performing a medley of songs by Claude Dubois.
“After the show, everyone talked to me about it. I experience the same thing when I cover some of his songs with my piano voice shows in restaurants and at various events. The next day I contacted the Union des Artistes to get the coordinates of Claude Dubois’ agent to get his permission,” he said in an interview.
Two days later he got the green light from Claude Dubois. In mid-December he took over the construction of this show with pianist Sébastien Champagne and multi-instrumentalist Pat Arsenault, who will play guitar, bass, flute and harmonica.
Jean Ravel will sing the essentials, his favorites and his discoveries. He got hold of a 400-page biography which he read through in three days and which taught him a great deal.
“There is so much great material that I could do a four-hour show with his songs. He has so many beautiful songs. He’s an exceptional songwriter. It won’t be a chronological show, but I intend to narrate the provenance of certain songs here and there,” he said.
Of interest
Jean Ravel will not try to imitate Claude Dubois.
“Singing Dubois is my thing. It’s natural for me. I don’t force. I’ll sing it my way and all the better if it doesn’t sound very far from him,” he said.
Dream woman, full of tenderness, the infidel, no question of adventure, like a million people if God exists, Les petits pebbles, her first songs, then Bébé jajoue la tune, and of course the unmissable Blues du Businessman program. A total of twenty songs.
Tickets have been on sale for a few days and the response is good. Another one could be announced soon.
The singer from Duberger does not hide it. He wants to host this show alongside his other musical adventures, including the musical revue Rock Story, which he created in 2004 and which returns at the Capitole on May 19th.
“There is already interest from broadcasters and hands up. My goal is to do it everywhere and maybe one day with full training. The ultimate dream, if it goes well, would be to showcase it in the main hall of the Capitol. I see myself doing it,” he said.
