Jean-Talon: The CAQ files a complaint against Pascal Bérubé over an email –

The CAQ filed a complaint with the Ethics Commissioner against MP Pascal Bérubé for using his National Assembly email address to ask for help from PQ sympathizers in Jean-Talon.

In a letter sent on Tuesday to Commissioner Ariane Mignolet, Mario Laframboise, CAQ member for Blainville and leader of the government group, argues that Mr Bérubé would have breached Article 36 of the Code of Ethics for Members of Parliament if he had used his email address as a member of the Parliament for party political reasons.

“I wonder whether it makes sense to use it for partisan purposes, as it seems obvious and significant to me. The MP not only sends an email to a large number of people to encourage their partisan participation in a by-election, but also asks them to send him names and contact details to his email address in the National Assembly, writes Mr. Laframboise.

In his email sent last Friday evening, the PQ MP for Matane-Matapédia immediately tells his recipients that “your name is on our list of Parti Québécois members in the riding of Jean-Talon.”

He then asks her to “help out” to help elect their candidate, Pascal Paradis.

“It’s ridiculous,” Bérubé said

“It’s ridiculous,” responded Mr. Bérubé, a member of parliament since 2007, who says he only has an email address.

“It was my mistake,” he admitted, then we quickly corrected him by sending a notice with the party email. »

“Those who complain about this are making significant use of state resources, political appointees, ministerial limousines” to campaign in Jean-Talon, Mr. Bérubé noted, referring to François Legault’s party.

“I think they found the wrong person to file a complaint […] continue,” warned the member for Matane-Matapédia.
