Jeff Bezos, the third richest man in the world and Amazon CEO, is reportedly increasingly considering getting his hands on the Washington Commanders and is about to make an offer.
The Washington Post, which is also owned by the billionaire, reported Thursday that the 59-year-old hired investment firm Allen & Company. He already participated in the sales of the Denver Broncos last year and the Carolina Panthers in 2018.
With an estimated net worth of $119 billion, Bezos would have no trouble placing a better bid than any suitor. The Commanders are said to be up for sale as owner Dan Snyder indicated in December that he was looking to divest the franchise.
The businessman has been trying to acquire an NFL team since 2019 and partnered with rapper Jay-Z and another investor back in November.
According to the prestigious Forbes magazine, the Commanders would be the sixth most valuable team on the Goodell circuit at $5.6 billion. Snyder bought it in 1999 for $800 million.
