The father of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer has died in an Ohio hospice at the age of 87.
Lionel Dahmer died of unknown causes while being treated in Medina County, Ohio, the local health department confirmed to The Post on Tuesday.
The exact date of his death is unknown.
Lionel, a chemical analyst, said he always stood by his son even though Dahmer – also called the Milwaukee Cannibal – killed 17 people.
In 1994, he told Oprah: “I still love my son. I will always stand by him – I always have.”
His death comes nearly a year after his wife, Shari, died Jan. 13 at a nursing home in Seville — about 25 miles outside Akron.
The father-of-two regularly visited his son in prison until he was beaten to death with a metal rod by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver in 1994, less than a year after he was convicted of his heinous crimes.
Lionel’s caretaker told The Sun in 2022 that the older man still gets “pissed” whenever Scarver’s name is mentioned.

“He’s still very angry about it,” said Jeb, his handler at the time. “From what I know, and the last time I spoke to Lionel, he thinks the guards looked the other way and let it happen.”
Lionel had divorced Dahmer’s mother, Joyce Flint, in 1978, when Jeffrey was about 18 and his brother David was 12.
He wrote the book “A Father’s Story” in which he recounted how he raised Dahmer from his perspective and attempted to examine what led him to commit the crimes he committed. He admitted to being aware of his son’s heavy drinking, aimless nature and fascination with dead animals.
He also said he made many attempts to get through to him and encourage him to live a normal life, but could hardly find any reason in his account as to why he became a murderer.
“At first I couldn’t imagine how he could be so far down the continuum. I mean, we’re all on a continuum, we all do bad things, we all sin,” said Lionel Dr. Phil in an interview that didn’t air until 2022.
“He was at the extreme end of the continuum. At first I couldn’t understand how he could do these things.”
Although Lionel had a private life, he couldn’t escape his son’s name, especially after Netflix canceled a series about the murders.
Crazy fans showed up at his door and behaved in a “hostile and aggressive manner,” and one woman even left her underwear on his lawn.

“Everything that has to do with Dahmer blows up. “It seems like every time a movie or series comes out there’s a lot of craziness that happens with the fanboys and fangirls,” Jeb told the outlet.
Lionel had also considered suing the major streaming platform for glorifying his son’s crimes in a dramatic series and for failing to contact his son’s legal team for access to tape recordings used in a documentary became.
