Jenni Hermoso the bell from TVE

Jenni Hermoso, the bell from TVE

We must recognize the value of Jenni Hermoso, the opportunity to welcome the New Year at a party, with her family or in my very glamorous way: eating pizza in her pajamas with friends, she has chosen to go with Ramón García and Ana the Bell to ring Mena. I appeal to courage not because they are in bad company or because of the coldness that is supposedly felt in this scenario, but because he knew what was coming when he accepted TVE’s proposal. His name was announced and the guardians of the essence of misogyny did not have time to express their opposition to the choice.

Hermoso is questioned about her merits on this balcony. It seems that having won a World Cup, being the national team’s all-time top scorer and, together with Alexia Putellas, the only players to have worn the red in more than 100 games are small things. I doubt that the same people who are tearing their virtual clothes today would have made a mistake back then when they went to the balcony of Casillas, Puyol or Capdevila – we must never forget the man who taught us Dancing with a Cubata on your shoulder– whose earnings were similar. What really shames them is that the striker has become a symbol against sexism – an involuntary symbol for those who voluntarily want to be one – after being harassed live and in front of millions of viewers by a Pichabrava boss. A crime turned farce and subsequent re-victimization, which is no longer surprising when it comes to sexual crimes. The Carcunda’s bilious overreaction upon hearing Hermoso’s name is also not surprising; it just confirms that #seababo still has a long way to go to become a reality and not just a hashtag.
