Jennifer Coolidge Causes Chaos in Tokusatsu Shoot Directed by Oscar Nominees

She was recognized for her role as Tanya McQuoid in White Lotus.

And Jennifer Coolidge made sure all eyes were still on her as she wreaked havoc at a tokusatsu photoshoot directed by Everything Everywhere All At Once duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

The 61-year-old actress lived up to her feisty personality when she donned a yellow oversized coat with shiny polka dots for W Magazine’s whimsical fictional shoot, complete with robots, smoking building envelopes and creepy monsters.

Shot in Corriganville Park, Kwan and Scheinert planned the film as an homage to tokusatsu – a genre of cheesy Japanese cinema that produced such legendary creatures as Godzilla, Mothra and Giant Robo.

And Jennifer let her imagination run wild as she raised a pylon over her head as she walked through a city ravaged by destruction.

Speaking of collaborating with the talented creators for the photoshoot, Jennifer said, “I felt like I was getting together with young children.

“They were like these kind of prodigies that are super, super smart and just super creative. I’ve never been asked to do a shoot like this before.

“I have guns, tear down small towns, pick up cars and throw them. I don’t know if I’ll ever be that surprised again. It was one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of.’

Jennifer has swept the board this awards season, winning an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, two Critics Choice Awards, and two SAG Awards.

Speaking of her role as White Lotus, Tanya, she added, “I feel sorry for her because she didn’t know what she was made of. She didn’t have that kind of confidence in herself. Sometimes these scary things happen in life.

“And then, in about two seconds, you find out that you’re a survivor and that you really can come through for yourself, sometimes in ways you never thought you could.”

On Sunday, Jennifer won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category at the SAG Awards for her stunning performance in The White Lotus.

Jennifer took the stage and spoke about how her “amazing parents” inspired her into acting.

“I had these amazing parents. And they had this incredible gift. It was impossible for them to lie,” the bombshell explained. “They just couldn’t. Never, they just never lied.’

Coolidge went on to share a heartwarming story about how her father forced himself to lie and say she was ill so he could take her out of elementary school and go to a Charlie Chaplin film festival.

Jennifer said: “The principal came to my first grade and said I needed to be called to the office. And I walked into the office and she said, “Your father is here.”

“My dad sat there and said, ‘Yes, Jenny, we have to go.’ And the principal said, ‘Jennifer, get well soon,’ and I didn’t know what that meant.

“And then I got in the car with my dad and he was driving and he said, ‘I’m never going to lie again, but we’re going somewhere that’s really cool.’

Coolidge then explained that her father took her to the festival, which sparked her passion for acting.

“I swear to God seeing Charlie Chaplin for the first time and having that experience — it’s my love of movies, it’s my love of acting, it all came from my first grade.”

Jennifer also thanked The White Lotus creator Mike White, saying, “Mike White, you can give money to friends… and people like money. But the best gift you can give someone is to change their perspective. And that’s what Mike White did for me.”

The series has just been renewed for a third season.
