Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she suffered multiple miscarriages before giving birth to her son, whose name and gender she has revealed for the first time.
Speaking to Vogue, the Hunger Games star said she “miscarried alone in Montreal” in her early 20s when she was planning an abortion. She also revealed that she got pregnant a few years ago while filming the movie Don’t Look Up and had a second miscarriage. At that time she was married and wanted to have a baby. “She had to have a D&C, the surgical procedure that removes tissue from the uterus,” reports Vogue.
Lawrence has been married to Cooke Maroney, an art gallery owner, since 2019. She gave birth to her first child with Maroney earlier this year and revealed to Vogue that the baby is a boy named Cy, whom they named after painter Cy Twombly.
Lawrence told Vogue she “felt like my whole life had started all over again” after giving birth, reflecting, “Now is the first day of my life. I just stared. I was just so in love. I’ve also fallen in love with all the babies everywhere. Newborns are just so great.”
But the interview with Vogue came just days after the Supreme Court ruled Roe v. Wade had lifted and Lawrence expressed his outrage at the decision.
“I had a great pregnancy,” she said. “I had a very happy pregnancy. But every single second of my life was different. And sometimes the thought occurred to me: what if I was forced to do this?”
