At least her wedding ring from her husband Ben Affleck symbolizes a much deeper story. As the “Jenny from the Block” singer explained, she experienced years of heartbreak before rekindling her romance with the Oscar winner, who she was engaged to in the early years before their split in 2003.
So what went wrong in their relationship the first time?
“Ben and I broke up three days before our wedding,” J.Lo recalls in her new documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” “We had planned a big wedding – 14 groomsmen and bridesmaids – and three days before we just collapsed under the pressure.”
Ben echoed this sentiment, sharing in the Amazon Prime documentary that the reason for the breakup was “the enormous control over our personal lives.”
However, the couple agreed that canceling their first wedding led them both on a journey of self-discovery, which ultimately helped them cross paths again in their reconciliation in 2021. They tied the knot at a ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022 before saying “I do” at a big wedding in Georgia the following month.
