Jenny Slate looks elegant at the premiere of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On in NYC

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On first came to life in 2010 in the form of an animated short film written by actress Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp.

Marcel, an anthropomorphic seashell equipped with a googly eye and a pair of miniature shoes, rode the wave of his viral success for three years, reappearing in two short film sequels and a children’s book.

It took nearly seven years, but Slate and Fleischer-Camp realized their idea of making a feature-length film about the character that’s a mix of live-action and stop-motion animation.

The film’s two co-creators, along with the cast and crew, attended the film’s premiere Saturday at the Whitby Hotel in the heart of Upper Midtown Manhattan.
