The Hawkeye actor was crushed by his seven-ton snow groomer while clearing snow from the path in front of his home on January 1, 2023, resulting in more than 30 broken bones, a liver injury and the collapse of his lung. After his hospital stay and long rehabilitation, Jeremy Renner explained how the experience had profoundly changed him.
“This machine certainly gave me a big break from our callousness. I was never snappy, but I was always a little more insensitive, a little tougher. And I think those rough edges have been ironed out now,” the star told People while discussing his new Super Bowl commercial for Silk.
Jeremy Renner, 53, underwent a series of surgeries to reconstruct his chest and repair damage to his eye. Since then, the actor has made an incredible recovery and recently returned to filming his TV series Mayor of Kingstown.
He acknowledged that the enormous obstacles on the road to recovery made him even more determined to succeed. “I know how far I can go. I have overcome a lot and there are so many things that could go wrong. Everything went well, every part. From my vision to walking, no one told me I would walk again. I said to myself, 'Well…'” he said.
Jeremy Renner, who has a 10-year-old daughter, Ava, said the traumatic incident made him realize how much he is loved and supported. “In the truest sense of the word, I feel very open, wonderfully sensitive and young. I was very lucky,” he said.
