Jersey is “one man’s journey to the impossible”. And judging by the trailer of the upcoming Bollywood movie, it could be Shahid Kapoor’s best performance in recent times. Shahid plays a father struggling to live up to his son’s expectations jersey. Revolving around cricket, Jersey also stars Mrunal Thakur as his mistress who seems to be both his strength and weakness alongside Pankaj Kapur.
The sports drama’s latest trailer shows the bond between Shahid and his onscreen son, and the latter’s persuasion by his father to make it through the Indian cricket team. The failed cricketer in Shahid’s Arjun Talwar is given new life when he sees his son’s faith in him and he decides to fulfill his dream of representing Team India, even if it meant overcoming numerous obstacles to break into the eyes of the selectors to prove. The scenes on the pitch also seem to add some adrenaline pumping moments to the film.

Jersey is the Bollywood remake of the National Award-winning Telugu film of the same name, starring Nani. The original sports drama directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri won Best Telugu Film and Best Editing at the 67th National Film Awards 2019.
Shahid Kapoor had previously said, “I’m a fan of the original film. I loved the way Nani performed. I didn’t want to do another remake. I was looking for a story that was worthy, different and fresh. This one stayed with me. It was true for me. Remakes aren’t easy. There is a sense of responsibility not to spoil the memory of the original. It’s far more demanding. This story was worth telling. It inspired me and taught me something that I will keep with me for life.” He added that Jersey was filmed in Chandigarh while the cricket portion was filmed in Mohali.
Gowtam Tinnanuri also directed the Hindi version. It is produced by Geetha Arts, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments and Brat Films.
Jersey was originally scheduled for release on December 31, 2021. It was postponed due to the rising Covid-19 cases. The film will now have its cinema premiere on April 14th. There will be a clash with KGF: Chapter 2 and Beast at the box office.
