Jill Biden had two cancerous lesions removed during outpatient surgery at Walter Reed National Military Hospital on Wednesday.
According to a statement from Dr. Kevin O’Connor of the White House, which was released by her office, she had a basal cell carcinoma removed above her left eye and from the left side of her breast.
“All of the cancerous tissue was successfully removed,” O’Connor said.
She is suffering from swelling and bruising on her face but is expected to return to the White House later Wednesday. She spent almost eight hours in the hospital.
President Joe Biden escorted her to Walter Reed Hospital to be with her for an outpatient surgery called Mohs Surgery.
Jill Biden, 71, is the oldest First Lady in modern American history.

The lesion was found during a “routine skin cancer screening,” according to a memo
Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure in which thin layers of skin are removed and tested for cancer.
Jill Biden’s office announced last week that she would undergo the procedure.
In April 2021, she had a “standard medical procedure” at an outpatient center near the George Washington University campus.
And in July 2021, she traveled to Walter Reed to have debris removed from her foot after stepping on an unnamed object while walking on a Hawaii beach.

Wednesday’s proceedings came after the Bidens returned from a three-day trip to Mexico where they met with their Mexican and Canadian counterparts as part of the “Three Amigos” summit.
The First Lady visited on Tuesday afternoon with her colleagues Dr. Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller from Mexico and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau from Canada visited the renowned Templo Mayor Museum.
She also thanked her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the New York Giants in Sunday night’s playoff game.
“I’m a huge supporter of the NFL. Actually I was here on the plane yesterday watching the Eagles beat the Giants,” she said.
She praised the NFL for “teaching our children the values of respect and integrity.”
The first lady joined local students in Mexico City for an NFL flag football event in Tochito that promotes gender equality and girls’ empowerment.
“I always say sport is the international language. And you can see kids from other countries, kids playing other kids from other countries – it’s all about unity. And believe in the same values and goals.”

Jill Biden, who teaches English at Northern Virginia Community College, brought a little heartache to the schoolchildren on Monday.
“You know I’m a teacher, so I’m just wondering, did you skip school to be here?” she said. “Maybe,” she remarked when the children looked embarrassed. ‘Okay, thanks for being here.’
Ahead of Monday’s NFL event, she hosted a conversation about women’s empowerment at the official residence of US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar.
“We have never been silent,” she told the group. “But women have been silenced. Raising your voice is a struggle for many women around the world and they have had to fight for a seat at the table.
“When women are left behind or pushed aside, it hurts us all. But when women get the opportunities they deserve, there are no limits.”
