A video obtained by CNN and taken by a passerby shows the couple in the back seat of an SUV.
The Carter Center then confirmed their visit in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“It is a great day for President Carter and his wife to go to the Plains Peanut Festival,” it said.
Nice day for President and Mrs. Carter to enjoy a ride through the Plains Peanut Festival! And just a week before he turns 99.

Jimmy Carter, who turns 99 on October 1, has been in hospice care since February.
His wife, Rosalynn Carter, 96, struggles with neurodegenerative diseases.
In an interview with People magazine in August, the couple’s grandson, Josh Carter, suggested that it was the “final chapter” for his grandparents, who have been married for 77 years.
Jimmy Carter was born in Plains and served as President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
