Jimmy moved to the slopes of Perisher for the snow season after COVID-19 submitted their research online for the last semester.
But on the morning of August 9, 2021, something went wrong before attending the afternoon class.
In one of my first TikTok videos, Jimmy said he landed on his head and broke his back after incorrectly jumping off a ski jump at high speed.
He shared the details of the accident in a series of videos, often joking about the whole situation, and now thousands of people admire his impeccably positive attitude.
Jimmy (pictured) moved to the slopes of Perisher for the snow season after Covid-19 submitted his studies online for the last semester.
But the young medical student remains positive despite the situation and shared the details in a series of TikTok videos.
In a TikTok video, Jimmy said he landed on his head and broke his back after jumping off a high speed ski jump incorrectly.
“I landed on the first jump, very light, and was approaching the second jump, which is much larger, and I had considerable speed,” Jimmy said in the video.
“I do the second jump, I get to the top and my weight is not where it should be. So I did the worst back flip in the world, and not on purpose.
“I caught a few meters of air and I remember thinking, ‘Oh shit, this is going to hurt’ and that’s the last thing I remember because after a few seconds I landed right on my head and passed out.”
Jimmy woke up in the snow, surrounded by witnesses and ski patrols asking if he was all right and if he could move his toes, which he couldn’t.
“That was the moment I realized things were probably not going well,” he said.
Jimmy mentioned that he usually snowboards, but this time he decided to go skiing.
Jimmy mentioned that he usually snowboards, but in this case he decided to go skiing.
“Traditionally I’m a snowboarder, maybe I should have stuck with snowboarding and I wouldn’t be here, but skiing is fun,” he said.
He was then rushed to a medical center where he began to experience chest pain and difficulty breathing.
At this point, doctors were unsure of the extent of the damage or whether Jimmy had broken his neck or back, so he was put on spinal precautions.
They then cut off his winter gear to take X-rays of his entire body.
But he was more concerned about the doctors cutting his expensive ski clothes to pieces and the way he smelled than the damage he had done to his body.
“You are probably wondering what was going through my head at that moment, and my first thought was: “Oh no, they just cut my favorite jumper to shreds.”
“My second thought was, ‘Oh no, this is the fourth day in a row I’ve been wearing these thermals without washing them, I’m pretty sure I stink now.’
After the crash, Jimmy woke up in the snow, surrounded by witnesses and ski patrols asking if he was okay and if he could move his toes, which he couldn’t.
An x-ray revealed that Jimmy had broken his spine and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery.
Before leaving, he asked the medical staff if they could pick up his laptop, headphones, phone charger, toothbrush and other essentials from his van parked on top of a snowy mountain, which they did.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, doctors performed spinal surgery, after which Jimmy woke up painlessly in the intensive care unit.
The doctors told Jimmy that during the operation they decompressed his spinal cord and stabilized the fractures with screws and rods.
Jimmy claims to have been told that there is about a two percent chance of any sensation returning below his thighs due to his level of injury.

Remembering the day of the incident, Jimmy didn’t cry or scream, but instead just took a selfie with the caption “Oopsy” that he saved to his phone.
“The accident I had that day was quite serious and the course of my life changed in an instant and it will literally never be the same again. But there’s nothing I can do to change what happened, all I can do is look back and say oops.
“I mean, sometimes bad things happen in life and there’s nothing you can do to change them.”

Jimmy’s TikTok video collection has amassed a total of 5.3 million likes and has gained over 466,000 followers who admire his positive attitude.
“You yourself are the most inspiring person I have ever seen on this app. You are like sunshine in human form,” wrote one person.
“I like this attitude because too often we get angry at ourselves and beat ourselves up. It’s a much healthier attitude,” added another.
The third said, “Your spirit is contagious.”
