It comes after Joan joked that she “keeps M&S afloat” by sending pictures of her clothing purchases and shopping trolleys filled with groceries to the company’s chief executive.

She may be known for her high-end designer glamour, but fashion icon Dame Joan has a surprisingly down-to-earth style secret: she loves to shop at M&S.

According to Marks and Spencer CEO Stuart Machin, like millions of ordinary British women, the Dynasty star enjoys browsing the chain’s clothing racks and strolling through the food halls.

He revealed the star, who turned 90 last week, even sends him pictures showing what she’s buying – and jokes that her spending keeps the business afloat.

“She texted me the other day just to let you know I’m moving on,” he told the Mail on Sunday. “She sent me her shopping cart.”

The admiration goes both ways: Mr. Machin raves about his famous client. “Firstly, I think she’s an icon.” Secondly, I think she’s so proud of her Brit and I love her voice.

“I love that she is passionate about our country.” I love her overall demeanor and style. But what I love even more is that she’s a big fan of M&S.

“She shops at M&S all the time.” She buys everything, groceries and clothes. I think she is an absolute star and a legend.’

Mr Machin’s friendship with Dame Joan became public in February when she complained that she was almost mowed down by a cyclist on her way to dinner with the M&S boss in London.

Luckily, she arrived unharmed at a reunion that also included actor Christopher Biggins and Mamma Mia! Music producer Judy Craymer.

Dame Joan is said to have a special fondness for M&S cashmere. Cardigans and jumpers cost less than £100 in-store, compared to around £900 for luxury brands.
