João Carreiro, country singer, dies at 41

Country music lost one of its biggest names on Wednesday night (3).

Singer João Carreiro, whose name made a name for himself alongside his career partner Capataz, died at the age of 41 after heart surgery.

The death was confirmed by the singer's former stage colleague and wife, Francine Caroline, via Instagram.

João was born in Cuiabá (MT) and underwent a procedure to implant a heart valve. He suffered from mitral valve prolapse, a condition that causes irregular heartbeat, palpitations and shortness of breath.

During the morning, the singer published a story on Instagram in which he informed his approximately 983,000 followers about the procedure.

“I will be undergoing a medical procedure and will be off the internet for a few days, but rest assured everything will be fine. Heavenly Father takes care of you,” he said.

In the afternoon, his wife Caroline Francine reported in a publication that the operation was successful and João's heart is now functioning with the valve. Three hours later, she published a new post asking her husband for prayers. The singer died shortly afterwards.

There is no information yet about the artist's wake.

Capataz mourned his friend's death in a post on Instagram.

“I received this sad news next to my daughter, she is now 21 years old, I remember when we started (she in her mother's womb). She cried next to me. Nobody but us will know what we experienced. God knows my heart. Go to peace João, God comfort your family and welcome you with open arms (sic),” published the compatriot.
