Son of Fabio Assunção, the young João, 20 years old, follows in the footsteps of his father, an actor known to the general public, and begins to emerge in the world of dramaturgy. In the theater they will appear together in the adaptation of the play “A morte do pai” by Norwegian Karl Ove Knausgård. In an interview for O Globo newspaper’s Patrícia Kogut column, João revealed what his relationship with his father is like and what his path as an actor is like.
João shared how the idea of adapting the book for theater came about: “It’s an idea of the pandemic that comes to life. The story is very interesting and super complex. We intend to start in July. We wanted to do something about fatherhood, about the fatherson relationship […] It all adds up to an experience that a young actor just starting out wouldn’t normally have. I’m very privileged in that regard,” he said.

It’s not the first time father and son have worked together. They took part in the film “Entre idas e vindos” when João was 13 years old. During the interview, the young man admitted that he felt fulfilled when he saw himself on the screen. At 17, he took a professional course at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. João also worked on Santo Maldito, a series that just premiered on Star+.
João is the result of the actor’s relationship with his exwife Priscila Borgonovi, to whom he was married for three years (2002 and 2005). He shares how he developed his relationship with his father during his youth: “My father and I have a relationship with cinema. We saw so many films together, had so many discussions and reflections. This certainly built the image I have of the profession. He always took me to sets. […] I was never a teenager to have adventures, not in a pejorative sense. For example, I don’t have the best relationship with alcohol for understandable reasons,” emphasized the young man.
