Job cuts at Telus

The communications giant Telus is once again making job cuts.

According to the TELUS supervisors union, even more so
These job cuts will affect 50 people, primarily in Rimouski but also elsewhere in the province.

Seven employees had their jobs eliminated while 46 others, including 42 in Rimouski, received layoff offers.

The chairman of the supervisory union TELUS expressed his regret about this situation.

“We no longer have decision makers in Quebec, these are all decisions made in western Canada,” said Brian Leclerc in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

The company responds in writing: “Given the difficult economic environment and our increasingly dynamic market, we are accelerating the transformation of our company and the way we serve our customers.” »

“The vast majority of these reductions are related to voluntary separation offers, which allow team members to accept generous offers, retire or explore new career opportunities outside of our organization.”

According to the union, Telus has lost more than 6,800 union jobs in Canada over the past decade while adding nearly 60,000 overseas.

The union leader called for a legal framework to curb the brain drain of this expertise.

“The Internet and communication services have become essential today and we are putting them in the hands of foreigners,” Mr Leclerc added.
