Joe Alwyn is keeping a low profile on the status of his relationship with Taylor Swift.
The British actor, 31, has declined to confirm or deny rumors that he and his superstar girlfriend, 32, are implicated in an interview with WSJ. Magazine published Wednesday.
“If I had a pound every time I think I was told I’m engaged, I’d have a lot of pound coins,” he told the publication.
“I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.”
Rumors that the couple has either gotten engaged or even secretly tied the knot have been circulating the internet for years.
In January 2020, Swift wore a massive diamond ring on her left hand in her Netflix documentary Miss Americana, which fueled the chatter. And that December, fans were convinced the couple was already tied after the singer wore a wedding dress in her “Willow” music video.
However, Alwyn and Swift have remained notoriously private throughout their relationship.
“We live in a culture that people expect so much from,” the Favorite actor told WSJ.
“So if you’re not posting all the time about what you do, how you go in a day, or how you made breakfast, does that make you a recluse?”

Alwyn then admitted that he likes to “feel a little less protected” in interviews or in “any kind of interaction,” but it’s “just a knee-jerk reaction to the culture that we live in.”
He concluded, “If you give it to them, it just opens the door.”
Earlier this month, Alwyn shared similar sentiments in an interview with Elle, saying: “We live in a culture that’s becoming increasingly pushy. … The more you give — and frankly, even if you don’t give — something is taken away from you.”
He and Swift have been a couple since 2016.
