Since confirming his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, Joe Biden has faced many hardships and friendly fire.
Hunter Biden a nagging evil
For the past three years, I’ve had an intermittent interest in Biden’s struggles with the law.
Whether it’s his personal life, controversial jobs he didn’t have the skills for, his paintings mysteriously bought at high prices, or his incomplete tax returns, we tell the Rosary his disappointments and wonder how he still does can enjoy fatherly blessings.
Whether during the 2020 primary, the 2022 midterms, or when we address him on the matter, Joe Biden reiterated his support for his son. He’s said to have been upset lately.
Hunter Biden recently hired new lawyers whose strategy doesn’t please those around the father. We should find out soon if he’s charged with a crime. Whether he is or not, there will be no outcome without risks for the President.
Opponents will certainly exploit the allegations, and if not, they will raise possible interference from Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Manchin and Sinema headaches
As the budget and debt ceiling negotiations threaten to weigh on the American economy if we don’t agree by June, Joe Biden is being hit again by two senators with whom he had a disagreement.
Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have been seriously teasing the President since 2021. While the former is still officially a Democrat, the latter has dropped the label to sit as an independent.
With a slim majority of 51 Senators, Biden and the Democrats will desperately need the support of at least one of these players.
Both are already hinting that they will demand big compromises before meeting, even if the Democrats’ slogan is to force Republicans to raise the debt ceiling without giving them anything.
A chance that there is the extreme right
On Sunday, an ABC News/Washington Post poll found Joe Biden’s approval rating at 36%. The same poll begs the question of his age, showing that 63% of voters believe he lacks the mental acuity needed to perform his role well.
If Biden fails to inspire enthusiasm, he can still play the reassuring candidate card that evokes some normality. The recent seditious conspiracy conviction of four members of the Proud Boys is a reminder of the presence of extremists who have nothing to do with the stability of the institutions and this normality.
As long as Republicans favor extreme candidates, Biden remains hopeful. Hopefully enough Americans still want normality.
