President Joe Biden’s granddaughter Finnegan was spotted in Malibu days after her mother revealed she was the one who exposed her father Hunter’s affair with his late brother’s widow.
Finnegan, 22, was out with several friends for a late dinner at chic beachside restaurant Nobu on Friday.
Despite being her grandfather’s secret weapon during the campaign, Finnegan has kept a low profile for the most part since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania last year.
Her father, Hunter, lives with his wife Melissa, 35, and their baby son Beau, named after Hunter’s late brother, in a $20,000-a-month rented house in Malibu.
Hunter, 52, has also stayed out of the spotlight in recent weeks as his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle prepares to release her memoir about their turbulent marriage five years after their divorce.
Explosive excerpts from the memoir released this week revealed how Finnegan, one of three daughters Hunter and Buhle shared, found out about and let her know about her father’s affair with his brother Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie.

On Wednesday, People magazine published excerpts from Buhle’s book, due for publication June 14, which details how she dealt with Hunter’s downward spiral into drug addiction after first joining the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Portland in her 20s , Oregon.

Buhle wrote that she finally kicked Biden out of her home in the summer of 2015 after finding a crack pipe in her ashtray and $10,000 in credit card charges at a Los Angeles hot tub store and payments to strip clubs and seen liquor stores.
This is after he had already admitted cheating on her with prostitutes while traveling abroad for work.
In an interview with People, Buhle acknowledged that she had lost herself in her marriage to the current president’s son.
“My biggest shame was feeling like my identity wasn’t my own. As I was writing this book, I realized that probably the heaviest weight was having to forgive myself for not believing in myself,” she told the magazine.
She recalled how different their upbringings were—she a working-class girl from Chicago and he the son of a US senator.
“Hunt, a middle-class kid, doesn’t have a ballroom,” she told her future husband while visiting his former family home in Delaware, a renovated 10,000-foot DuPont mansion.
There were disturbing signs of what was to come years earlier, Buhle wrote.
The couple married in 1993, and in 2001 Biden showed signs of alcoholism.
Buhle recalled that this was around the time Biden’s IUD drank[ed] from social to problematic.”
“One Saturday morning while we were having friends over, Hunter walked into the kitchen looking like he hadn’t fallen asleep. I was making pancakes while watching him get a bottle of Jack Daniel’s out of the cupboard,” she recalled.
“Hunter! What are you doing?” I said. “It’s ten in the morning!” she wrote. “I don’t think he knew what time it was and he still seemed drunk. He laughed and put the bottle back.’
“We all stared,” she added.

Buhle recalled Finnegan calling her family therapist’s office in 2016 and asking the therapist to break the news
Buhle recalled that she could see Finnegan’s face relax now that the secret was out and I hadn’t fallen apart.

The years 2015 and 2016 until the couple divorced in 2017 were particularly hard for Buhle.
Beau Biden died in May 2015, resulting in Hunter spending more and more time with Beau’s widow, Hallie, and their children.
“Our therapist told me Hunter needed to be up there helping Hallie. “But what about his sobriety?” I asked her,” Buhle wrote, and the therapist responded that “being with Hallie and her children was an important part of Hunter’s grief.”
But with the discovery of the crack pipe, Buhle realized he wasn’t sober, and she said she “compulsively called and texted” Hunter in the fall of 2015.
“At Lake Tahoe, fees were charged at a nail salon and fees for two lift tickets. I found a $10,000 credit card charge at a Whirlpool store in Los Angeles. I found hundreds at liquor stores and strip clubs,” she recalled.
“The whole time he told me he was healthy and sober — and I was crazy,” she said.
She said she told Biden she was “the only person actually trying to sober him up.”
“It became my own kind of addiction,” she wrote. “I didn’t want to admit to myself or anyone else how unhealthy our relationship had become, so my struggle was just another secret.”
The biggest secret to be revealed came in November 2016 when her daughter Finnegan called Buhle into her therapist Debbie’s office.
“I’d taken all three girls to Debbie’s a couple of times to talk about Beau’s illness and Hunter’s drinking,” Buhle said.
‘What happened?’ Buhle asked Finnegan, who told her mother she didn’t want to talk about it on the phone.
‘I was at Debbie’s house three miles later. I went straight into the conservatory to find Finnegan curled up in a chair, a pillow in her hand while she cried. I wrapped my arms around her. “Everything will be fine. All right?” I told her. “I love you,” Buhle remembers.

Finnegan and her sister Naomi asked Debbie to break the news to Buhle.
“Debbie,” Finny said when we had Naomi on speakerphone, “can you tell her? We can’t do it,” Buhle wrote. “Debbie looked me in the eye and said calmly, ‘Kathleen, Hunter is having an affair with Hallie.’
Buhle said all he could say was “Oh my God.”
‘That’s all I said. Did that feel like a shock?’ she thought.
She asked her daughters how they knew that.
“We found his phone,” Finnegan told her, and Naomi intervened. “There were text messages between them.”
Buhle recalled that she could see Finnegan’s face relax now that the secret was out and I hadn’t fallen apart.
“If anything, I felt an odd validation,” Buhle said. “Not only had I not been insane, but it was so much worse than I could have imagined. I was shocked but not heartbroken. Heartbreak had already crushed my self-esteem last year.
Debbie said to Buhle, “We called Hunter,” and that was the cat out of the bag. “We told him we found the phone and we knew it,” the therapist said.
“She looked straight at me. “From now on, Kathleen, no more secrets. I told the girls that from this day forward you will tell them the whole truth,” Buhle wrote.
“No more secrets,” added the author. “The idea was a relief.”
